The DoctorConnect Online Education Program is intended for IMGs/ OTDs* and other health professionals who are intending to work in Australia or for those who are already working in Australia.
This program is an orientation for IMGs and other health professionals to the culture and language of Australian society. It introduces some of the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by health professionals to work safely in Australia.
As such, this is only a starting point for your understanding of Australian culture. Safe practice in any clinical setting involves sound medical knowledge, safe clinical skills and procedural skills, excellent communication, understanding of the healthcare system and the cultural context of your patients.
The modules in this program provide an opportunity for health professionals to familiarise themselves with a range of language, cultural and medical issues relevant to the delivery of health care in Australia.
It is recommended that you set aside 1.5 to 2 hours to do each module. You can work at your own pace and return to the program at any time. The program keeps a track of what you have done.
*Internationally, doctors who seek registration in other countries are referred to as international medical graduates (IMGs) or overseas trained doctors (OTDs).
